Tips for Your Video Content Shoot

Tips To Prepare For Your Next Content Shoot

June 25, 2026

It’s almost shoot day! We’ve chatted about your brand in a pre-production meeting and the type of content you need – new reel b-roll, a batch of interviews sharing tips to your audience, or even updated stock video for your website. We have a shotlist full of ideas to capture on camera and more will probably pop up during the shoot (we love those spontaneous ideas)!

You probably have your outfit(s) already planned in your head, and maybe even a list of props to grab around your house (or a last-minute Amazon order), but there are a few more things I’d like to share with you to keep in mind as you prepare for your content shoot.

What props do I really need?

Start with the items you use daily in your business. Laptop, notebook, and your favorite coffee mug are all a perfect start! Keep in mind that we will probably take a peak over your computer screen, so give that screen a wipedown to rid it of smudges. If you have any documents, presentations, or visuals you will be displaying on your screen, go ahead and download them, or have an offline version ready to go. Wifi might not be reliable, and it is best to have a backup!

Anything that has your logo on it is also a great option for a prop! I often tell people to think of a ‘wedding flatlay’ for your brand. Items with matching brand colors or trinkets that represent you or your industry could be used as props!

My outfit is chosen- what else am I missing?

Decide if you want to dryclean your outfit prior to your shoot, and make sure you give the cleaners extra time – just in case! If you’ve worked with a stylist to choose your outfits, they may have specific instructions for certain items.

An extra cardigan or blazer is always nice to have for a simple outfit change without changing completely – neutral colors are great!

One last thing – your hands will be in the shots! If you are someone who likes to have their nails done, go ahead and get an appointment scheduled so you are ready for those close up shots of notetaking, keyboard typing, etc. Give your rings and bracelets a nice shine as well!

Got everything?

A few days before your shoot, check GPS around the same time you need to leave for your shoot. This can help you get an idea of any traffic that you may run into, and let you know when to leave for your shoot. Lay out your outfits and pack your props safely in a box (laundry baskets work great, tbh!) and set it aside, so you don’t rush to pack everything the day of. The one morning you aren’t pre-packed is the morning your eyeliner isn’t evening out…

Last thing!

Get a good night’s sleep and don’t stress! Drive to your shoot with your favorite playlist blasting, and channel all those good vibes. We can’t wait to see you!
